Douglas Aircraft Company
The Douglas Aircraft Company began manufacturing the DC-3 in 1936. By the mid-60s and early 70s, these aircraft were in use around the world. Lambair had a number of these workhorses. Many had intriguing provenances including planes that saw action in World War II and one that was found in Afghanistan and flown back to Canada by Jack Lamb and his wife Barbara. This adventure is related in his autobiography “My Life in the North” and online. His book is available through McNally Robinson Booksellers in Canada.
In May 1972, DBJ - the DC-3 Lambair purchased in Afghanistan, had been in service for one-month when it went through the ice at Tadoule Lake. The story of its rescue is related in Jack's book and online.
